About the role
The Facilities & Grounds Technician position is based in Indianapolis and surrounding areas. Pay starts at $19/hr. and includes full benefits.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoots, repairs, and completes routine maintenance of facility and physical grounds at all Goodwill locations.
- Certify product quality, guarantee customer satisfaction, and promote continuous improvement.
- Travels to off-site locations by company service vehicle to perform grounds services and routine maintenance, including painting, carpentry, plumbing, basic electrical, and furniture relocation.
- Disassembles mechanical equipment and tools, repairs or replaces worn or broken parts, and reassembles.
- Adjusts parts of mechanical devices as needed. Inspects completed repairs.
- Performs preventative maintenance as scheduled.
- Operates basic hand and machine tools, adhering to all safety procedures.
- Ensures timely updating and completion of work orders using the CMMS, inputting maintenance data and repair information.
- Communicates daily and works effectively and professionally with Facilities management, customers, service contractors, and others to coordinate scheduling and repair activities.
- Maintains all training requirements for the position, while seeking out opportunities for continuous development and growth.
- Cross-trains and assists in other areas to build skill base and value within the department.
Requirements
- Degree and Credential Requirements: NONE!
- Carpentry Skills: Proficient at measuring, wall anchoring, drywall finishing, and installing hardware. Has worked with a variety of hand tools.
- Communication Skills: Articulates thoughts and expresses ideas effectively using oral, written, visual, and non-verbal communication skills, as well as listening skills to comprehend customer and employee needs. Delivers information in person, in writing, and in a digital world.

- Reading Technical Documents: Reads, understands, interprets, and follows technical diagrams/documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, electrical schematics, and procedure manuals.
- Technical Knowledge: Has familiarity with computers, tablets, and Smartphones for a variety of applications and email correspondence. Prior Experience using a CMMS to handle work orders and PM checklist is an additional plus.
- Deductive Reasoning: Thinks plausibly and makes sound judgments when following instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form adhering to applicable regulatory and safety requirements.
- Organizational Aptitude: Plans and attends to details and pursues quality in accomplishing multiple tasks in an organized and timely fashion. Exhibits careful attention to detail and follow-through with a focus on managing deadlines.
