About the role

The Facilities and Grounds Technician at Rocky Vista University in Billings, MT is responsible for maintaining the safety, utility, and appearance of RVU Montana's facilities. This role involves coordinating with outside contractors and vendors, managing lighting schedules, and ensuring proper operation of vehicles and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Keep records of inspections and maintenance records of all safety systems within RVU Montana.
  • Create and maintain a schedule or timetable for regular evaluations of the facility and maintenance.
  • Makes recommendations for improvements and modifications associated with the custodial staff.
  • Supervise the work of outside contractors and vendors, including landscaping, plumbing, lighting, door closures, and security related issues.
  • Monitor and maintain Lighting schedule while providing support and backup to the Sr. Technician.
  • Submit requests to the Manager of Facilities and Grounds for maintenance projects.
  • Affirm 24-7 coverage relating to building usage, custodial, grounds, maintenance, safety, and emergencies.
  • Oversee the usage of facilities by RVU Montana personnel/groups and organizations within the university, including set-ups, teardowns, and clean-up.
  • Oversee snow removal issues and scheduling, performing snow removal by shoveling or light equipment.
  • Monitor and maintain the irrigation system and grounds.
  • Read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings, plans, and schematics.
  • Work on a rotating on-call status.
  • Perform physically demanding tasks throughout the workday, including lifting and carrying 50 lbs., climbing 25-foot ladders, and working in all weather conditions.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) to three (3) years job-related experience in the areas of maintenance and/or facilities.
  • One (1)-three (3) years experience working with Building Automation Systems.
  • One (1)-three (3) years of electronic training with an understanding of electrical and electronic diagrams.
  • One (1)-three (3) years of experience in hands-on maintenance, landscaping, or grounds upkeep duties.

  • Good organizational skills – ability to come up with processes and follow up.
  • Outstanding communication skills.
  • Safely operate and maintain power tools and equipment.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Professional demeanor.
  • Ability to work with confidential material with a high level of attention to detail and discretion.
  • Ability to multi-task and problem solve.
  • Must be able to work effectively in a team-based diverse environment.
  • Effective time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
