About the Role

The Facilities Apprentice plays a vital, hands-on role in supporting the physical and ministry environment of Cherry Hills Community Church. This entry-level position is designed for someone eager to grow in practical maintenance skills while serving with excellence and humility. Whether responding to urgent facility needs or setting up unique events and keeping spaces clean, safe, and ministry-ready, the apprentice is a key contributor to our mission of creating a welcoming place for people to encounter Jesus. This role is ideal for a dependable, self-starting individual with a heart for service, a desire to grow, and the flexibility to thrive in a fast-paced, ever-changing church environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support urgent facility needs and event setups.
  • Maintain clean, safe, and ministry-ready spaces.
  • Operate church vehicles safely (e.g., carts, vans, trucks).
  • Perform physical tasks such as lifting (up to 50 lbs), bending, kneeling, climbing, and carrying.
  • Work outdoors in various weather conditions for tasks like shoveling snow or clearing debris.
  • Stand or walk for extended periods during operations, events, or services.
  • Use ladders, step stools, or scaffolding for maintenance, setup, cleaning, or repairs.
  • Operate light equipment or power tools under supervision and training.
  • Manage multiple tasks under pressure with flexibility and composure.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Previous exposure to custodial, event support, or general labor is helpful but not necessary.
  • Valid driver’s license with ability to operate church vehicles safely.
  • Available for evenings, weekends, or holidays as required.
  • Must pass a CHCC background check.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrates emotional composure and flexibility in dynamic, high-demand situations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a collaborative and service-oriented mindset.
  • Initiative, reliability, and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Eagerness to develop practical skills in maintenance and facilities support.
  • Proficiency with common office technologies (email, printers/copiers, shared drives, organizational software).
  • Capable of troubleshooting basic issues and learning new tools quickly.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in written and verbal form.
  • Understand and apply biblical principles, policies, and ministry materials.
  • Convey information effectively to staff, volunteers, congregants, and leadership.

Physical Demands

  • Frequently moves between standing, sitting, walking, and light physical activity throughout the shift.
  • Regularly lifts or moves items up to 50 lbs (e.g., event equipment, materials, trash, tools, and supplies).
  • Performs tasks such as bending, kneeling, climbing, reaching, carrying, and repetitive motion.
  • Uses ladders, step stools, or scaffolding for maintenance, setup, cleaning, or repair at various heights.
  • Works outdoors in a variety of weather conditions (e.g., shoveling snow, clearing debris, seasonal maintenance).
  • Stands or walks for extended periods during daily operations, events, or weekend services.
  • May operate light equipment or power tools under proper supervision and training.
