Position Summary
The Children’s Aid Afterschool in Action Program at the Salome Urena Campus, funded by the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), is an afterschool enrichment program operating Monday through Friday, from 2:00pm to 6:00pm. The Facilitator will provide tutorial help for students with their homework, additional educational instruction, social emotional learning, and the opportunity to engage middle school age children in an array of enriching sports and art-based activities.
Essential Duties
- Understand and promote the organization’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values to ensure alignment with organizational policies and procedures.
- Supervise and care for (up to) 20 children, which comprise a group or club.
- Engage middle school age children in fun learning activities; provide a safe and respectful environment to our youth.
- Collaborate with an Assistant Facilitator on day-to-day activities.
- Develop classroom and behavioral management skills, implement professionally developed literacy-based curriculum, and develop relationships with children and their families.
- Design, plan, and lead the implementation of special projects in and out of program.
- Be punctual, responsible, have a positive attitude, and provide encouragement to children.
- Assist in activities or tasks necessary to ensure an orderly operation of the program: supervise children during supper, ensure equipment is properly signed out and that all equipment is properly cleaned and returned.
- Plan, teach, supervise, and organize games.
- Attend regular staff meetings, trainings, and work cooperatively with other staff members in the program and in the schools.
Minimum Qualifications
- Pursuing an associate or a bachelor’s Degree.
- At least one-year experience working with children, tutoring, or teaching is highly preferred.
- Field of study in Education or Social Work.
