Qualifications
Must be a high school junior or senior.
Essential Functions
- Assist certified teacher as they instruct individual or small groups of students in a special education or general education classroom.
- Aid students in completing classroom assignments, homework, and projects in various subject areas; answer questions, provide examples, and offer emotional support.
- Perform clerical duties such as typing, duplicating, and filing instructional materials; take and record attendance.
- Explain classroom assignments and homework instructions; assist with lesson plan implementation and instructional activities; assist with student understanding of classroom rules and procedures.
- Accompany and assist students in mainstreamed classes; escort students to and from buses and classes; push student wheelchairs.
- Assist designated adults in monitoring students during outdoor activities and field trips as required.
- Support students in developing organizational, communication, social, and self-help skills as assigned; assist with handling educational materials.
- Follow health and safety practices and procedures; maintain classroom and other assigned areas in a safe, orderly, and clean manner.
- Attend and participate in training and in-services as needed.
- Perform related duties as assigned by the Administrator to meet the particular needs of the building/unit.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to speak and hear.
- Required to have dexterity of hands and fingers.
- Required to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
- Occasionally required to bend at the waist, kneel, or crouch.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
- Frequently exposed to outside weather conditions.
- Required to lift, carry, and/or push or pull students weighing 50 pounds or more.
