Fabricator II (1st shift)

About the Role

As a Fabricator II, you will layout and assemble flat and formed plate components using engineering drawings with minimal assistance. The role involves tack welding to join parts, setting up fabrication components, laying out and grinding parts to develop shape, and assisting in the forming of raw plate.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately interpret instructions, prints, and work orders for the job.
  • Read and record measurements using conventional micrometers, calipers, and related instruments.
  • Keep equipment and work area clean and orderly.
  • Communicate problems regarding work pieces, schedules, or safety to supervisors as conditions arise.
  • Paint equipment and job parts.
  • Assemble finished machined parts to prove fit and for further machining.
  • Proficient in blueprint reading (except geometric tolerancing).
  • Assemble complex runners, distributor assemblies, shaft-to-runner installations, Kaplan turbine assemblies, and pump assemblies with some direction and assistance from a Fabricator III.
  • Set up work cells for effective and efficient operations.
  • Perform hot and cold forming operations such as buckets.
  • Generate and implement Lean continuous improvement ideas.
  • Vent check runners and pumps with assistance and direction from a Fabricator III.
  • Operate main cranes and make lifts of components up to 25 tons.

Requirements

  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in teams and independently.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Proficient in blueprint reading.
  • Ability to follow safety procedures.
  • Ability to assemble complex runners, shaft-to-runner installations, Kaplan turbine assemblies, and pump assemblies with some direction and assistance.
  • Ability to make roll setups and mount weldments onto welding positioners.
  • Ability to perform hot and cold forming operations such as buckets.
  • Ability to generate and implement Operational Excellence initiatives.
  • Ability to vent check runners and pumps with assistance and direction.
  • Ability to operate main cranes and pumps with assistance and direction.

Qualifications

  • GED or High School diploma required.
  • Training from college or technical school preferred.
  • Three or more years of experience in large structural fabrication; hydro fabrication experience is a plus.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
