Fabrication Lead (Structural)

TAS, a Houston-headquartered company and part of Comfort Systems USA, delivers innovative packaged modular systems for data centers, power, and commercial/industrial utility applications. With over 520 packages delivered to 33 countries, TAS operates five ISO 9001 certified manufacturing facilities in Houston, totaling 1.2 million square feet. The company manages all logistics and transportation, facilitating accelerated construction at customer facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate pipes to required customizations
  • Manage all Work Orders associated with fabrication
  • Supervise work team in the planning and execution of a wide variety of fabrication tasks
  • Plan resource requirements based on Work Orders and production plan
  • Foster a spirit of teamwork within the department
  • Track, assign, and monitor work orders
  • Ensure timeliness, safety, and quality of material movement
  • Responsible for safe work practices, maintaining a safe work environment, and ensuring work crews follow safe practices and HSE programs, including Lock-out Tag-out
  • Train employees on changes in safety regulations, work policies, and standards in conjunction with the Production Supervisor and EHS Manager
  • Develop skills and abilities of team members
  • Ensure all department employees complete required training
  • Perform any other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • Two years of pipe or structural fabrication experience

  • Knowledge of team leading practices and techniques
  • Ability to effectively coordinate and supervise multiple work orders
  • Strong decision-making abilities
  • Commitment to continual improvement and effective quality management systems
  • Professional manner in dealing with others and maintaining constructive working relationships
  • Ability to read blueprints and follow product specification instructions
  • Understanding of the production and Work Order process
  • Experience managing people

Work Environment

  • Work performed in a non-climate-controlled shop environment
  • Exposed to elements such as hot and cold temperatures
  • Ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods (up to 10 hours per day, up to 6 days per week)
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, twist, reach (forward and overhead), and maintain balance
  • Occasional sitting, kneeling, crouching, and crawling
  • Frequent bending at the waist and twisting movements
  • Frequent lifting of materials up to 50 pounds (floor to shoulder height and waist to shoulder height)
  • Occasional carrying, pushing, and pulling of up to 50 pounds over short distances (up to 30 feet)
  • Frequent use of hands for handling, grasping, and coordination tasks
  • Requires normal vision, hand-eye coordination, and absence of color blindness
  • Hearing ability required to safely and effectively perform job duties (earplugs recommended)
  • Frequent climbing of ladders; occasional climbing of stairs or steps
  • Proper PPE required: steel-toe boots, safety glasses, and TAS-provided hard hat
