About the role

The Fabrication Lead oversees the day-to-day production activities of the fabrication work group and supervises a team of four to five Fabrication Associates. This is a working leadership role that combines hands-on fabrication and welding with direct supervision, work coordination, and team development.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the daily activities of a team of four to five Fabrication Associates (Associate I, II, and III).
  • Assign and prioritize work orders and allocate labor and equipment to meet project deadlines and production schedules.
  • Monitor team productivity, work quality, and output to ensure quality and efficiency standards are met.
  • Provide coaching and training to support skill progression across associate levels.
  • Provide input on hiring, performance evaluations, and corrective actions in partnership with the Fabrication Director and Human Resources.
  • Enforce all safety protocols, OSHA requirements, and company policies, and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Track team-level materials, tools, and supplies and coordinate with purchasing to ensure availability.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between the associate team and the Fabrication Director regarding production status, issues, and resource needs.
  • Lead and support process improvement initiatives to increase shop efficiency, quality, and throughput.
  • Coordinate with estimating, CAD/design, project management, and other departments to ensure project timelines and quality standards are met.
  • Maintain accurate records of production progress, labor hours, and project status.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and engineering drawings.
  • Operate MIG, TIG, and Stick welding equipment to produce high-quality welds and assemble metal components.
  • Use hand and power tools to cut, shape, fit, and finish metal parts.
  • Inspect and test welded joints and finished work to ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Assist with complex fabrication projects requiring precision and creativity.
  • Maintain welding and fabrication equipment in safe, operational condition.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in metal fabrication and welding, including demonstrated lead experience.
  • Proficient in MIG, TIG, and Stick welding techniques.
  • Proven ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and engineering drawings.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and team coordination skills.
  • Experience with process improvement and production scheduling.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality control.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and relevant production or project management software.
  • Thorough knowledge of workplace safety protocols and OSHA regulations.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
  • Able to work in a warehouse/manufacturing environment; must be able to lift up to 40 pounds.

Work Environment

Warehouse and manufacturing environment with occasional loud noises. Office environment for planning, scheduling, and administrative tasks. Occasional on-site reviews and evaluations in outdoor conditions.
