About the role
Are you looking to expand on your expertise or start something new while providing critical mission support to NEX guests and the U.S. Military across the globe? This role supports military members and their families by delivering essential tailoring services at a high-volume military retail location. Located at Naval Air Station Fallon—the Navy’s premier tactical aviator training facility and home of “Top Gun”—you’ll work in a dynamic environment where no two days are the same.
Responsibilities
- Modifies, alters, and repairs clothing, including military and civilian garments.
- Handles placement, arrangement, and affixing of military ornamentation (e.g., ratings, stripes, medals, ribbons, badges, devices) on uniforms.
- Takes customer body measurements to ensure proper garment fit.
- Receives and fulfills special orders for affixing insignia, selecting appropriate items from a large assortment for military personnel.
- Operates a sewing machine and maintains a clean, orderly workspace.
- Receives garments for laundering or dry cleaning, completes tickets, and processes pick-ups and payments.
- Operates a cash register, manages a cash fund, and prepares daily sales reports.
- Requisitions and maintains adequate stock supplies and assists with inventory.
- Provides excellent customer service, exercising tact, courtesy, and prompt assistance.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- One year of general experience in basic clothing modifications, alterations, and repairs or one year of high school education (substituted for 3 months of experience, up to a maximum of one year of general experience with a High School Diploma or GED).
- One year of specialized experience using a sewing machine to perform garment alterations and repairs (e.g., adjusting sleeves, waists, zippers, collars, pockets, tapering skirts, sewing on ratings/stripes).
Physical Effort & Working Conditions
- Frequent standing, stooping, bending, and kneeling to measure and mark items.
- Prolonged sitting while operating a sewing machine or hand-sewing.
- Continuous use of hands, arms, and fingers for sewing and handling tools (e.g., shears).
- Works in an enclosed, adequately lit, ventilated, and heated area.
- Exposure to minor risks (e.g., needle punctures, scratches, material irritations) and noise from sewing machines.

Pay & Schedule
