About the role

The West Sacramento Police Department is seeking experienced law enforcement professionals to join our team in a part-time, extra help capacity to support special events and operations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide law enforcement presence and security at A’s games
  • Support operations at River Cats games and other special events
  • Assist with jail transport duties
  • Support full-time police officers during peak periods

Requirements

  • Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge and skill
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience: Equivalent of Ten (10) years full time experience in a municipal or general law enforcement agency, and currently employed as a Full Time or Part Time Peace Officer with a California Law Enforcement Agency; or Currently working as a Level I Reserve Police Officer with a California Law Enforcement Agency; or Retired as a Full Time Peace Officer with a California Law Enforcement Agency.

Qualifications

  • License: Possession of a valid California driver's license
  • Intermediate POST Certificate

Skills

  • Ability to perform law enforcement officer duties
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment, including a computer
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle in emergency situations and at high rates of speed to respond to calls for service
  • Ability to patrol designated areas, by foot, by bicycle, or other means to preserve law and order
  • Ability to prepare and review reports
  • Ability to apprehend and arrest offenders for crimes committed under federal, state, and local laws and codes
  • Ability to control and mitigate people under the influence of drugs or alcohol or other potentially hostile situations
  • Ability to investigate complaints and take appropriate action, which may include the use of deadly or non-deadly force
  • Ability to establish and preserve good relationships with the general public
  • Ability to enforce parking regulations; issue warning and citations for code violations
  • Ability to conduct investigations at scenes of incidents to which summoned, or incidents observed to determine what, if any, crime has been committed

Benefits

As an as-needed employee, Extra Help/Special Events Police Officers are an "at-will" position and there is no guarantee of hours. Hours are limited to 999 in a fiscal year or 960 hours in a fiscal year for retired CalPERS annuitants.
