About the Role
The Assistant Coach supports the overall direction, coordination, and coaching of the assigned sport to develop each student-athlete.
Responsibilities
- Comply with all school, district, league, and OSAA rules
- Assist the head coach in coordinating all practices
- Analyze, demonstrate, and explain basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of the sport to participants and parents
- Enforce program policies and recommend policy changes to administrators
- Communicate effectively with parents and staff
- Model and enforce sportsmanship policies, rules, and regulations
- Commit to ongoing personal and team growth
- Promote fund-raising and grant applications for the program when appropriate
- Maintain equipment and supplies inventory; hold staff and students accountable for supplies and equipment
- Supervise and manage site operations to ensure safety and efficiency
- Maintain accurate staff and student records
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior for an orderly, productive environment
- Serve as a contributing member of district-wide committees as needed
- Cooperate in arranging school-level public relations and publicity for special events and achievements
- Maintain communication with community and parent groups
- Demonstrate a positive attitude and remain a flexible, innovative team builder
- Ensure prompt and regular attendance
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license and evidence of insurability
- Criminal Justice Fingerprinting Clearance
- Current First Aid Card
- Bloodborne Pathogen Training
- ASEP (American Sport Education Program) Certification (required for high school coaching positions)
Qualifications
- Prior job-related experience in soccer and/or coaching
- Skills to work effectively with coaches and students
- Knowledge of district policies and procedures regarding co-curricular activities
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions, work independently with minimal supervision, perform a variety of tasks, adjust to flexible assignments (including some night work), and communicate with students, staff, and parents
