Extension Instructor or Open Rank Extension Educator - Horticulture, Landscape, and Environmental Systems (Scotts Bluff County)

This full-time faculty position is located in Scottsbluff, NE. The role involves developing and delivering educational programs and resources within the primary geographic accountability region of Banner, Box Butte, Cheyenne, Dawes, Deuel, Garden, Kimball, Morrill, Scotts Bluff, Sheridan, and Sioux Counties. The position is self-directed and requires working in a flexible environment.

This is a twelve-month, non-tenure track position with the title of open rank extension educator or extension instructor, depending on the candidate's level of education. Those with a graduate-level degree in the relevant field will be considered for an educator position, a full-time, promotable, non-tenure track appointment. Those with an undergraduate degree will be considered for an instructor position, a full-time, non-promotable, non-tenure track appointment renewed annually for a maximum of five years. If hired as an instructor, you will be expected to make satisfactory progress toward and complete a master's degree within the initial five-year appointment period. Upon completion of the master's degree, the position will advance to an assistant extension educator appointment.

Responsibilities

• Develop, deliver, and impact educational programs and resources as an active participant in Nebraska Extension.
• Collaborate with research and extension faculty to create innovative learning experiences.

Requirements

• Master's degree in horticulture, landscape design/management/sustainability, environmental science, horticulture entomology, fruit and vegetable production, plant health care, or a closely related field (for extension educator); OR bachelor's degree in the same fields (for extension instructor). If hired as an instructor, you must make satisfactory progress toward and complete a master's degree within the initial five-year appointment period.
• Successful experience teaching in a formal or non-formal setting.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate (e.g., publications, presentations, web, and social media).
• Experience with and/or teaching urban or landscape horticulture similar to Nebraska systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with individuals, coworkers, and teams to accomplish individual and/or group goals, as evidenced by college, career, and/or community activities.
• Outstanding leadership skills as demonstrated by roles in college, career, and/or community activities.
• Ability to utilize electronic and online technologies for educational program delivery.
• Successful experience developing financial support for educational programs, including grant writing, fund generation, contracting, and/or cost recovery efforts.
• Experience in supervisory roles.
