Extension Agent - Roane County

Tennessee State University invites applicants for the Extension Agent position, serving Roane County. This role is 75% 4-H Youth Development and 25% adult Agriculture and Natural Resources.

About the role

The Extension Agent will plan, implement, evaluate, and report county extension programs in 4-H Youth Development and adult horticulture. Responsibilities include delivering educational programs through traditional 4-H clubs, project groups, workshops, camps, conferences, and special interest classes. Program delivery methods involve volunteer recruitment, site and home visits, phone calls, workshops, newsletters, and media engagement.

The Agent will develop and maintain public relations with educational officials, collaborative agencies, program sponsors, and elected or appointed officials. Programs will be planned, executed, and evaluated based on County, State, and Federal guidelines and clientele needs. Additional duties may be assigned by County, Regional, and State Extension Administrators.

Responsibilities

• Plan, implement, and evaluate 4-H Youth Development and adult Agriculture and Natural Resources programs.
• Execute programs, events, and activities through 4-H clubs, project groups, workshops, camps, conferences, and special interest classes.
• Recruit and manage volunteers through site visits, home visits, and other outreach methods.
• Develop and maintain public relations with stakeholders, including educational officials, agencies, sponsors, and government officials.
• Document and market program impacts, providing leadership in a collaborative environment.
• Work with UT and TSU Extension programming personnel.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Family & Consumer Sciences, Education, or a closely related field.
• Experience in Extension, teaching, or other youth development activities is preferred.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and overnight travel.
• Access to a personal vehicle and a valid Tennessee driver’s license.
• Comprehensive knowledge of program planning, implementation, and evaluation.
• Effective interpersonal and teamwork skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, including experience with print media, radio, and television.

Schedule

• 37.5 hours per week.
• Days worked: Monday through Friday.
• 12 months per year (fiscal year).
