Extension Agent - Madison County

This position is 100% 4-H Youth Development, based in Madison County and reporting through Tennessee State University Extension.

About the role

The Extension Agent plans, implements, evaluates, and reports county 4-H educational programs. Responsibilities include organizing traditional 4-H clubs, project groups, workshops, camps, conferences, and special-interest classes. Program delivery involves volunteer recruitment, site and home visits, phone outreach, workshops, newsletters, and media engagement. The Agent develops and maintains public relations with educational officials, collaborative agencies, program sponsors, and elected or appointed officials.

Responsibilities

• Plan, execute, and evaluate 4-H programs based on county, state, and federal needs.
• Coordinate events and activities through 4-H clubs, project groups, workshops, camps, conferences, and special-interest classes.
• Recruit, train, and manage volunteers.
• Conduct site and home visits, and maintain communication via phone, newsletters, and media.
• Develop and sustain partnerships with educational officials, agencies, sponsors, and government representatives.
• Document and market program impacts.
• Collaborate with UT and TSU Extension personnel.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by county, regional, and state Extension administrators.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Family & Consumer Sciences, Education, or a closely related discipline.
• Knowledge and experience with STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) preferred.
• Comprehensive understanding of Extension program planning, implementation, and evaluation.
• Effective interpersonal and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and overnight travel.
• Access to a personal vehicle and a valid Tennessee driver’s license.
• Strong communication skills using print media, radio, and television.
• Leadership ability and self-reliance in a collaborative environment.

Schedule

• Full-time, fiscal year (12 months).
• Days: Monday through Friday.
• Occasional nights, weekends, and overnight travel required.
