Extended Care Staff

This part-time position is located at St. Mark’s Episcopal School in the West University neighborhood of Houston, Texas.

About the role

Extended Care Staff use their passion for child development to provide mentorship, safety, and enrichment to students during aftercare, clubs, and camp programming.

Pay

$15 - $21 per hour

Schedule

• Consistently work from 2:30 pm - 6:00 pm, Monday-Friday
• Opportunity for additional hours during the school’s Staycation and Seasonal Camps during holidays off from school (half-day and all-day hours)

Responsibilities

• Oversee 10-20 students along with a co-teacher
• Be actively engaged: interact with students, play music, develop challenges, lead games, and ensure strolling supervision
• Prepare snacks and activities for students prior to their arrival to aftercare
• Check in/out students and stay informed about basic medical information such as allergies
• Produce an encouraging environment that ensures active student participation in homework and reading time
• Ensure students are responsible and respectful to both instructors and fellow classmates
• Ensure classroom, playground, and shared spaces are clean and reset upon departure
• Provide social-emotional support to students and utilize Conscious Discipline measures for redirection and behavior management
• Report concerns, incidents, emergencies, and supply requests to Extended Care leadership
• Follow all school rules and expectations, including checking in/out all assigned technology
• Navigate a constantly moving environment with moderate supervision
• Walk and stand for long periods

Requirements

• 18+ years old
• Experience with children
• At least one year of work, volunteer, or organization participation experience
• Education background preferred

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

• Works in a sometimes highly stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges
• Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
• Physical agility to lift up to 50 pounds; to bend, stoop, and reach overhead
• Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled classroom environment
• Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold
