Job Description

The Knolls Laboratory Weight Handling Engineering unit is seeking an Electrical Engineer to support the safe and reliable operation of cranes and weight-handling equipment across the site. The role involves supporting maintenance, inspection, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of cranes and other weight-handling equipment. This includes working on electrical and electro-mechanical components such as control circuits, VFDs, motors, limit switches, braking systems, and mechanical drive systems. The responsibilities also extend to performing engineering evaluations, developing technical recommendations, maintaining documentation to ensure equipment reliability and configuration control, performing on-site equipment assessments, providing real-time technical support to maintenance, inspection, and operations teams, supporting crane procurement and upgrade projects, including specifications, design reviews, and acceptance testing, ensuring compliance with NNL procedures and standards including NAVFAC P-307 and ASME B30, collaborating with groups across NNL along with Naval Reactors and the Navy Crane Center.

Required Combination Of Knowledge And Skill

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering, or science field and a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience; or
• Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering, or science field and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience; or
• Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering, or science field and a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience; or
• Currently a Senior Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company.

Preferred Skills

• Strong communication and teamwork abilities
• Organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks
• Experience with cranes or electromechanical/industrial equipment
• Familiarity with crane standards (NAVFAC P-307, ASME B30)
• Experience troubleshooting electrical systems, controls, or VFD-based drives

Pay Range

$95,700.00 - $149,600.00 annually

Skills

The pay range for this position is $95,700.00 - $149,600.00 annually, based on candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
