About the role
We are looking for an Expert DevOps Engineer (f/m/d) in the area of Platform Engineering Team within Technology & Engineering unit of Sovereign Cloud Delivery & Operations team in the Product Engineering board area. This is a hybrid role, located in Reston, VA, with the expectation of working in the office three days a week.
In this role, you will join the Platform Engineering team and provide a high level of technical expertise in building, hardening, and operating the internal SAP Sovereign Cloud environments used as reference by the regional Operations teams. You will help build, maintain, and deliver Sovereign Cloud products to customers aiming at functional completeness, streamlined deployments, and smooth operation. You will work closely with technical product managers, engineers, and architects with a focus on the Gardener infrastructure and BTP product suite. You will engage closely with Operations colleagues, Security, as well as the different engineering teams.
Responsibilities
- Technical Mastery: Independently handle the development, maintenance, and improvement of our continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipeline using cloud services and automation tools, using Terraform for advanced cloud resource provisioning and management.
- Coding Prodigy: Deliver exceptional code in Python, Go, and Bash, driving our platform's evolution.
- Cloud Connoisseur: Design and orchestrate solutions on Azure, AWS, and GCP, integrating best-in-class cloud practices and principles.
- Security Steward: Implement advanced cloud security measures to ensure the integrity and safety of our customers' data.
- Strategic Vision: Understand SAP's broader goals and identify how our cloud infrastructure can elevate and support these objectives.
- Mentorship & Guidance: Serve as a technical luminary for junior engineers, fostering an environment of learning, growth, and innovation.
- Process Optimization: Keep abreast of industry trends and integrate best practices into our tech stack and methodologies.
Requirements
- University degree in computer science, engineering, or similar.
- 10+ years of experience as a DevOps Engineer or similar software engineering role.
- Expert proficiency with Git, Terraform, Kubernetes, and other infrastructure automation toolsets.
- Deep expertise with cloud services (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, Azure) and an in-depth understanding of their offerings.
- Significant experience in network, server, and application-status monitoring.
- Proven ability to lead and improve software-automation production systems.
- Exceptional problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Comprehensive understanding of scalable computing systems.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to explain protocol and processes with team and management.
- Expertise in scripting languages Python and Bash.
- Robust knowledge of cloud security protocols and best practices.
- A history of setting up, managing, and optimizing CI/CD pipelines.
- Due to the classified nature of our work, willingness to subject yourself to a governmental security clearance.

Pay
The targeted annual combined range for this position is 176,300–374,200 USD. The actual amount to be offered to the successful candidate will be within that range, dependent upon key aspects of each case such as education, skills, experience, scope of the role, location, etc. Any SAP variable incentive includes a targeted dollar amount, and any actual payout amount is dependent on company and personal performance.
