Experienced RN - Critical Care - Surgical ICU/Medical ICU - Staff Flex Option 12

The 24-bed 4800 Surgical Intensive Care (SICU) and Medical Intensive Care (MICU) Units at Akron General provide comprehensive critical medical support to diverse populations from young adult to geriatric patients. As an RN in these units, you will ensure patients feel comfortable and safe throughout treatment. This position offers an opportunity to enhance your critical care, trauma, and CRRT dialysis knowledge while making a difference in patients' lives.

This RN position is part of Cleveland Clinic’s Flex Option 12 program, requiring you to work two 12-hour shifts per weekend (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM). This schedule allows you to enjoy personal time during the week.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care, including assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for a given patient population.
• Complete ongoing assessments, recognize changes in patient condition, and respond appropriately.
• Develop and update care goals, involving patients and families in planning.
• Coordinate the interdisciplinary plan of care and serve as a patient advocate.
• Administer treatments and medication, and document care.
• Participate in ongoing interdisciplinary evaluation of patient/family outcomes, contribute to care improvement, and engage in the quality improvement process.
• Delegate tasks/assignments, serve as a resource person, pursue ongoing education and specialty certifications, and maintain applicable certification/licensure.
• Review and document progress and discharge goals with patients and families.
• Participate in and document patient care, discharge planning, and case management conferences.
• Communicate patient plan of care, current outcomes, and acuity at shift report.
• Ensure JCAHO Core Measures related to nursing care are achieved, incorporate patient safety goals, and complete all paper and electronic records.

Requirements

• Graduate from an accredited School of Professional Nursing (Diploma, ADN, or BSN program).
• Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) upon hire.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through the AHA within one year of hire.
• TCAR certification within 24 months of hire.
• One year of current ICU or acute care RN experience in a hospital setting.
• Satisfactorily complete AGMC RN and Critical Care Unit orientation programs.
• Complete Critical Care course as administered by Staff Development (if new grad or new to critical care field).
• Requires full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
• Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
• Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
• Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
• Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
• Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN).
• Experience in a critical care setting.

Schedule

Two 12-hour shifts per weekend (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM) as part of the Flex Option 12 program.
