Experienced P&C Field Services Technician
About the role
Enter WSP is currently seeking a POWER Testing and Energization (PTE) Experienced P&C Field Services Technician for project locations in Texas and Louisiana. This opportunity supports a wide range of testing and commissioning activities, including protection and control systems on high voltage substations.
Responsibilities
- Execute moderately complex assignments, ensuring regulatory compliance, safety adherence, and data integrity across active job sites.
- Provide day-to-day support to field teams, resolve challenges on-site, and mentor junior technicians.
- Document site activities using field forms, digital data tools, and mobile applications.
- Support the Project Lead or Field Supervisor on projects, escalate complex technical problems, and monitor subcontractor performance.
- Communicate progress, field observations, and potential delays to the project team.
- Review the work of less experienced technicians for quality and accuracy, providing informal guidance as needed.
- Maintain attention to detail when filling out logs, photo documentation, and label entries.
- Collaborate with other technicians to maintain workflow, safety, and quality standards.
- Assist in monitoring subcontractor performance and activities, reporting observations to field leadership.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent, with a minimum of 7 years of experience in the electrical testing industry, including experience in medium and high voltage circuit breakers, power transformers, instrument transformers, and substation protection and controls testing.
- Demonstrable expertise on transmission, generation, and distribution relays (SEL, Basler, Beckwith, and GE families) and protective schemes.
- Technical skills related to protective relays, including relay calibration utilizing test sets/measuring devices such as Omicron CMC 256/356 and Doble F6150, control scheme testing, testing of the sensing CT/PT circuits, ability to upload settings to microprocessor relays, and static & dynamic testing of microprocessor-based protective relays.
- Proven experience with electrical field testing standards, practices, and procedures, such as NETA, IEEE, and NFPA applicable standards.
- Experience with testing electrical distribution, generation, and transmission projects with voltage levels ranging from 15 kV to 500 kV, including protective relays and circuit breakers.
- Experience using technical software such as ProTesT, Protection Suite, ENOSERV RTS, Omicron Test Universe, and AcSELerator Quickset for testing purposes and data review.
- Ability to read and understand electrical drawings.
- Physical stamina to work in outdoor and physically demanding conditions.
- Skilled in preparing field logs, sketches, and digital reports.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
- Willingness and physical ability to lift up to 35 pounds individually, and up to 100 pounds with assistance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Technology degree in a similar discipline.
- Experience in testing and troubleshooting electromechanical relays.
- Experience in testing and commissioning electrical equipment on high voltage substations such as CTs, CCVTs, PLC systems, and DC systems, including batteries and battery chargers.
- Current OSHA 30-hour or 40-hour HAZWOPER certification.
