Responsibilities
- Perform work as outlined on repair orders with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
- Diagnose the cause of any malfunction and perform repairs on diesel trucks or equipment.
- Communicate with the parts department to obtain needed parts.
- Save and tag parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer.
- Examine assigned vehicles to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended.
- Communicate with the service advisor immediately if additional work is needed, if outlined work is unnecessary, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time.
- Document all work performed and recommended on the repair order.
- Road test vehicles when required or refer to the test technician.
- Participate in manufacturer-sponsored training programs, schools, and events.
- Stay updated on manufacturer technical bulletins.
- Supervise the work of apprentice diesel technicians as assigned.
- Report machinery defects or malfunctions to the supervisor.
- Ensure customers' vehicles are kept clean and notify the service advisor immediately of any changes to the vehicle’s appearance or condition.
- Keep the shop area neat and clean for safety.
- Maintain and account for all dealership-owned tools and manuals, returning them to the proper place in the same condition.
- Understand, stay updated on, and comply with federal, state, and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal and OSHA Right-to-Know.
- Operate all tools and equipment in a safe manner and report any safety issues immediately to management.
Qualifications
- Hardworking and willing to put in the time and effort to learn the diesel technician trade.
- Work with senior technicians to gain experience in multiple levels of diesel repairs.
- Online and instructor-led training provided.
- High school diploma preferred or completion of vocational/technical school.
- Basic mechanical aptitude with 1 to 2 years of experience preferred.
- Valid driver’s license with the ability to obtain a CDL license.
- Must have base required tools or obtain them within 30 days.
- Major tooling provided in-house.
- Safety shoes are required on the first day of employment; employees must wear approved safety footwear at all times in designated shop and service areas.
- Background screening is a mandatory prerequisite for employment consideration.
