About the role
SYTE Corp is seeking an Experienced Damage Prevention Technician to join our team. This role plays a critical part in public safety, damage prevention, and infrastructure protection.
Responsibilities
- Respond to 811 locate requests within required timelines.
- Accurately locate and mark underground utilities including: Electric, Gas, Communications/Fiber, Water, Sewer, CATV systems.
- Interpret utility maps, prints, and GIS systems.
- Operate locating equipment including: Electromagnetic locators, Ground penetrating radar (GPR), GPS/GIS devices, Signal transmitters and receivers.
- Maintain detailed documentation and digital ticket updates.
- Communicate professionally with contractors, homeowners, municipalities, and utility owners.
- Follow OSHA, company safety, and traffic control procedures.
- Identify hazardous conditions and escalate issues when necessary.
- Perform field verification and quality assurance on completed marks.
- Maintain company vehicle, equipment, and inventory.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2–5 years of utility locating experience preferred.
- Knowledge of APWA utility marking standards.
- Strong understanding of damage prevention practices.
- Ability to read construction plans and utility maps.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Certifications
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30.
- CPR/First Aid.
- NULCA certification.
- State damage prevention certifications.
Physical Requirements
- Walking long distances.
- Lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent bending, kneeling, and standing.
- Ability to work in extreme heat conditions common in many regions.
