Experienced CNC Machinist - Weekend Shift

About the role

Our Machinists in Mount Vernon work on large-scale, multi-axis CNC mills and lathes to machine one-of-a-kind precision components for naval nuclear reactors used in submarines and aircraft carriers. This is a low-volume, highly-engineered manufacturing environment where you’ll be involved in the full life cycle of the build. You’ll work in a safe, clean, and highly-specialized manufacturing environment alongside a skilled team. All machinists start with paid on-the-job training and mentoring prior to working alone. Overtime is required but flexible, with additional overtime available if desired. A sign-on bonus of $4,000 is currently offered, and relocation assistance is available for qualified applicants.

The role begins with training on day shift, transitioning to a three-day weekend schedule (twelve-hour shifts, Friday through Sunday) with pay for forty hours per week.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC machine tools to perform milling, drilling, tapping/thread milling, boring, and turning to meet print specifications.
• Use precision measuring equipment to verify products meet customer requirements and specifications, working to ±.001” tolerance and 16 microfinish when necessary.
• Write and edit programs using G and M coded controls (Siemens and Fanuc experience preferred).
• Troubleshoot challenges with support from on-site engineering.
• Read and comprehend written instructions, technical procedures, prints, sketches, and bills of material.
• Assist CNC Programmers in developing and testing run programs.
• Calculate proper speed and feed rates using advanced mathematical skills.
• Operate cranes or assist with rigging and moving parts.
• Maintain a clean work area and perform daily housekeeping duties.
• Collaborate with the opposite shift through face-to-face carryover and log books.
• Work with tooling application engineers to devise optimum tooling design and practices.
• Adhere to all applicable company procedures, policies, and rules.

Requirements

• High school equivalency with a minimum of four (4) years of relevant experience, or an Associate’s of Applied Science degree in Machining Tool and Die or equivalent training plus two (2) years of on-the-job experience.
• Experience with grinders, tool setters, jacks, clamps, bolts, shims, jigs, fixtures, angle plates, rules, micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, gages, levels, protractors, verniers, and light hand tools.
• Ability to maintain detailed records, complete process documentation, and other production records.
• Ability to work any shift, including nights and weekends.
• U.S. citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience machining parts greater than 8-feet diameter and 10-tons.
• Experience with machining attachments (e.g., right angle, universal, offset milling).
• Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).

Pay

The base salary for this position in Indiana is $78,042.13 per year. The total compensation package may also include an annual cash incentive and a full range of medical, retirement, and other benefits. Shift premiums and premium pay (e.g., double time) are available based on hours/days worked.
