About the role
The CNC Machinist will be responsible for setting up machines per work order specification, understanding and properly using inserts and tooling, and reading and interpreting blueprints.
Responsibilities
- Setup machines per work order specification
- Understand and properly use inserts and tooling
- Read and interpret blueprints
- Check product dimensions utilizing proper equipment such as calipers, pi tapes, height gauges, etc.
- Make the proper adjustments to the tool offsets or program to maintain parts that are consistently in tolerance & meet every single specification that the blueprint calls out
- Read, understand, and abide by all documented safety procedures, operating and maintenance manuals
- Clean and maintain machinery according to department and Company standards
- Handle, install, and use raw materials and related fluids
- Refer any issues regarding CNC machines, computers, inspection equipment, tooling/inserts, or any equipment employee sees malfunctioning to leads or supervisors
Requirements
- Must be well organized and able to maintain a clean and safe work area
- Make parts that always meet or exceed all callouts and tolerances on the blueprint and job traveler
- Make parts that don’t require deburring if it’s possible
Qualifications
- 5 years' experience as a CNC machinist
- High School diploma or GED required
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Math skills
- Excellent decision-making skills
- Excellent communication skills with everyone involved in the process
Skills
- Computer knowledge: good understanding of windows, ability to use MS word, Excel, Scan to Cad, and any other specific software used in the CNC department
- Program and operate any CNC lathe, also willing to learn to operate the CNC mills
- Check and edit existing programs and have an excellent understanding of g-code
- Troubleshoot problems when needed not only for yourself, but also for a beginner or intermediate machinist
- Grinding, ability to sharpen certain tools, grind clearance on a tool if it is required to perform a specific operation and even the ability to grind an entire tool out of carbide stock
- Know how to program lathe and lathe with c-axis using GibbsCam software, and willing to learn programming the mill
- Familiarity with Solids in software programming: creating them & extracting geometry from them
- Able to set the CMM up on parts that already have a CMM program & be willing to learn to program the CMM
- Understand how and be able to make any type of mandrels or fixtures, including familiarity with vacuum & vacuum fixtures

- Able to pay close attention to detail for checking parts to prints, and in general have good vision and the ability to notice small imperfections during visual inspections of parts
Physical Requirements
- Frequently lift, and or move up to 50lbs
- Sit, stand, or walk for at least 10 hours a day
- Good manual dexterity
- Exposure to excessive noise
