Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA)

Responsibilities

• Assist the dentist in performing complex dental procedures and functions
• Auxiliary in the administration of local anesthesia and monitor patients during the procedures
• Place, carve, and polish dental restorations as permitted by state regulations
• Perform coronal polishing and apply fluorides as needed
• Provide patient education regarding dental procedures and proper oral hygiene
• Manage patient records and ensure accurate documentation of procedures performed
• Maintain a clean and safe working environment following all state health regulations

Requirements

• A high school diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited dental assisting program is required
• Current Expanded Functions Dental Assistant certification and CPR certification
• Proven experience as a dental assistant, with specific EFDA experience preferred
• Strong knowledge of dental materials, terminology, and procedures
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to provide exceptional patient care
• Able to work efficiently in a team-oriented environment and manage multiple tasks
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills
