Expanded Function Dental Assistant - Relief

Pay

$31.91 - $40.64/hour, depending on experience.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and update patient medical records, including medical history and vital signs.
• Conduct complete patient X-ray procedures (panoramic, cephalometric radiographs, intraoral photographs) and develop/store X-rays in the electronic dental record.
• Set up and record periodontal charting per Provider’s instruction.
• Prepare instruments and equipment for patient exams, mixing materials with infection control awareness.
• Perform preventative periodontal care: coronal polish, fluoride treatments, and sealants.
• Provide oral hygiene education and counseling in-clinic and in Mobile Unit school-based programs.
• Assist in implementing and monitoring the patient infection control program, including sterilizing instruments/equipment, cleaning autoclaves, and maintaining sterile packaging integrity.
• Assist in Orthodontics as needed: obtain patient records, bite registrations, patient models, fabricate orthodontic retainers, and place/remove ligature ties.
• Perform Lead duties as needed: maintain daily department flow, act as liaison between staff and supervisor, manage breaks/lunches/sick calls/overtime, provide employee performance insights, and train new/existing staff.
• Perform other duties as assigned, ensuring alignment with The Joint Commission (TJC), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), and YVFWC requirements.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
• BLS certification within 90 days of hire.
• Registration as a Surgical Technologist if assisting a Dentist in the operating room.
• EFDA certification within 90 days of employment required.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred at level 10 for differential pay; additional pay for bilingual skills, paid on hours worked.
• Basic knowledge of medical/dental terminology, dental anatomy, dental materials/instruments, infection control techniques, and oral health care instruction.
• Ability to perform four-handed dental assisting: instrument transfer, oral evacuation, cement mixing, and spatulation.
• Strong manual dexterity and coordination; ability to interact professionally with patients of all ages and employees.
• Basic proficiency in an Electronic Dental Record (EDR), Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
