About the role
The Exhibits Coordinator develops, monitors, and maintains physical and digital exhibits in the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign's interactive heritage museum, the Richmond Family Welcome Gallery at Alice Campbell Alumni Center. The Welcome Gallery features exhibits on more than 130 topics about the U. of I.'s past, present, and future.
This is a hybrid role, reporting to Alice Campbell Alumni Center in Urbana, IL, four days per week and working remotely one day per week. However, in specific situations it may be necessary for the Exhibits Coordinator to report to the Alice Campbell Alumni Center on remote workdays (for example, to fix a malfunctioning exhibit).
Major Duties & Responsibilities
- Maintains daily functionality of the Welcome Gallery’s interactive exhibits, including all audiovisual media and media components.
- Aids the Welcome Gallery’s curator with the development and installation of physical and digital exhibits.
- Edits video, audio, and other media for use in Welcome Gallery exhibits.
- Updates content in digital exhibits in conjunction with the Welcome Gallery’s curator.
- Collaborates with UIAA’s social media staff to develop social media content related to Welcome Gallery exhibits and U. of I. history.
- Aids the Welcome Gallery’s curator with determining ways to best interpret, display, and disseminate U. of I. history content through exhibits, public programming, and print and electronic media.
- Aids with events and projects related to UIAA’s History and Traditions Programs.
- Serves as Welcome Gallery volunteer coordinator.
- Provides scheduled Welcome Gallery tours for alumni, campus, and community groups and Alice Campbell Alumni Center guests.
- Serves as an ambassador of Illinois history and traditions to the university community, campus visitors, and alumni all over the world.
- Other duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum two years of related experience.
- Proficiency with photo, video, and audio editing software.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Prior experience producing and maintaining interactive visual media (preferred).
- Prior experience building physical exhibit mounts (preferred).
Education and/or Certification Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Preferably a degree in museum studies, library and information science, media/communications, the humanities, or related areas.
Appointment Information
- This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis.
- The expected start date is as soon as possible after August 19, 2026.
- Salary range is $55,000 to $60,000.
