Exhibition Volunteers

We're looking for volunteers who are passionate about creating a welcoming visitor experience to support the invigilation of our forthcoming 50th anniversary exhibition, Mythic Reinventions: An Exhibition Celebration 50 Years of Costume and Craft, running from 16 September to 22 November 2026.

About the role

• Help visitors navigate the exhibition in our Great Hall, answer frequently asked questions, and provide basic information about the exhibits when requested.
• Act as a friendly and visible presence within the exhibition, helping visitors to enjoy and engage with the work on display.
• Help safeguard the artworks and costume items on display from the theatre’s archive, while supporting the security and safety of the exhibition environment.
• Undertake research to develop a deeper understanding of the items on display (training and supporting information will be provided).

Requirements

• Interest in theatre, art, costume, museums, or exhibitions is desirable but not essential.
• Enthusiasm for engaging visitors and supporting the Royal Exchange Theatre.
• Availability to attend both of the following dates:
  • Group interview/workshop on Wednesday 19 August 2026 (one session only: 2pm, 4pm, or 6pm).
  • Volunteer induction on Friday 11 September 2026 at 10am.
• Confirmation of attendance and any access requirements should be included in your application email.
