About the role

The Exhibit Designer’s role includes creative development, design execution, and project coordination through all phases of the design process for 2-4 concurrent large and small projects. The role focuses on the design, integration, and coordination of exhibits and other scenic, multimedia, and display elements within architectural spaces. Special attention will be given to effectively implementing emerging technologies and non-traditional interfaces.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to all stages of design and project development, from concept through installation oversight, in collaboration with in-house designers, producers, production managers, writers, UI/UX designers, software developers, AV engineers, fabricators, external consultants, contractors, and vendors.
• Create site/building/gallery program diagrams, space use plans, detailed floor plans, elevations, AV integration plans, 3D models and fly-throughs, rendered visualizations, cost estimates, and other technical and design documentation.
• Collaborate with other departments, sub-consultants, and contractors to coordinate technical, engineering, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, IT, wayfinding, and other requirements into inspiring designs and efficient drawings.
• Interface with clients, lead workshops or design discussions, and synthesize client needs and objectives into documentation and design.

Requirements

• Willing and able to travel and work long and/or unusual hours as necessary to accommodate exhibit installation and external stakeholder meetings.
• Available to work in-person at Ideum’s offices in Corrales, New Mexico.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar capacity.
• Experience seeing an experience design project through from initial design to fabrication detailing and installation oversight.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Industrial Design is preferred, but equivalent work experience in exhibit production and architecture with a proven record of successfully designed and executed projects is also welcome.
• Architectural registration is not required but is an excellent qualification.
• Expertise in CAD rendering and detailing programs; Revit or Bluebeam experience is a plus.
• Facility with Adobe Creative Suite is a plus, as is experience with Blender or Maya.
• Experience with museums, zoos, aquariums, science centers, or other interpretive public spaces is a plus.
