Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Coordinator/On Site Manager, the Exercise Tech contributes to the disease prevention and fitness development of wellness clients through the use of principles of exercise physiology, kinesiology, and adult education.
Responsibilities
- Educates clients regarding the accepted scientific principles of cardiorespiratory, strength, and flexibility conditioning.
- Instructs clients on proper exercise form, safety, and equipment use.
- Makes appropriate referrals based on client goals, such as dietary, stress management, and smoking cessation.
- Monitors BP, HR, and RPE closely as deemed necessary by referral, physician, or cardiac rehab medical director.
- Makes observations and utilizes metabolic data (BP, HR, RPE, and respiratory rate) during exercise sessions.
- Collaborates with other staff, medical directors, or referring physician regarding inappropriate responses to exercise.
- Ensures safety in exercise by thorough knowledge of the client's medical history, proper supervision, and demonstration/explanation of exercises.
- Motivates clients to pursue exercise as a lifelong goal.
- Serves as a role model for clients, employees, and the community through a personal fitness program, prudent heart living, and participation in hospital and community projects promoting health and fitness.
- Organizes work by establishing priorities to complete assigned responsibilities within an acceptable timeframe.
- Maintains current and inactive patient/client files.
- Supports and understands clients' needs and goals, offering additional assistance as needed.
- Displays courteous and considerate behavior towards clients, families, visitors, and other staff.
- Promptly completes necessary forms and informs the immediate supervisor of incidents/accidents.
- Voice opinions, concerns, and suggestions regarding client care and wellness program to the immediate supervisor.
- Demonstrates initiative in professional growth and development by staying current with new methods and innovations and attending in-service sessions as requested.
- Notifies supervisor if unable to come to work.
- Evaluates and maintains adequate supplies and equipment for safe, quality service to all clients.
- Fulfills a consistent cleaning schedule.

Qualifications
- High School graduate.
- Basic knowledge of exercise science including kinesiology, functional anatomy, exercise physiology, nutrition, and health appraisal techniques.
- Knowledge of injury prevention.
- Current certification in BCLS recommended.
