Exercise Stress Physiologist

About the role

We are seeking an Exercise Stress Physiologist to join our team in Monroe, NY. You must be able to float to Newburgh, NY and Middletown, NY as needed.

Schedule

Monday–Friday between the hours of 7:00 am and 4:30 pm.

Responsibilities

• Perform a daily visual check of stress testing rooms and equipment for safety and functionality; troubleshoot minor equipment problems.
• Perform diagnostic checks on AED/defibrillator equipment.
• Correctly identify patients using patient name and date of birth per policy and procedure.
• Properly identify diagnosis and reason for testing; screen EMR and verify physician order, prescription, and signed consent.
• Screen female patients 55 years old or younger for pregnancy and screen for breastfeeding.
• Properly identify and achieve target heart rate for each patient undergoing stress testing.
• Appropriately monitor and stop stress testing based on patient’s ECG, verbal, physical, and emotional condition and/or physician’s order.
• Properly identify patients who are candidates for pharmacological stress testing.
• Maintain Radiation Safety and ALARA.
• Demonstrate proficiency on patient chest prep and ECG placement; familiarize patients with tests and preparation.
• Demonstrate proficiency operating Exercise Testing System (ECG and Treadmill/bicycle).
• Monitor and evaluate patient’s vital signs and ECG measurements during and post-procedure; submit diagnostic information to ordering or reading physician for interpretation.
• Identify ECG abnormalities.
• Assist cardiology staff in connecting and placing Holter monitors on patients; operate Holter analysis software, download data, scan for critical results, and remove artifacts.
• Report and document all critical results in accordance with practice guidelines.
• Perform other tasks as directed by supervisory and managerial personnel to ensure efficient practice operations.
• Prepare and connect respiratory mouthpiece for patient and explain breathing maneuvers prior to pulmonary function testing (PFT).
• Monitor and evaluate patient’s physical and emotional condition during PFT/CPET testing; use appropriate coaching techniques to obtain a quality study.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Basic ECG Interpretation proficiency.

Qualifications (Preferred)

• Master’s Degree in Exercise Physiology.
• Certified Exercise Specialist or Clinical Exercise Physiologist by American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• 1+ years of clinical experience in a hospital or cardiology practice.
• Experience reading/interpreting ECGs.

Pay

The hourly pay for this role ranges from $24.00 to $43.00 per hour based on full-time employment.
