About the Role
The Exercise Physiologist directs the cardiac/pulmonary rehab patients' exercise regimen within the scope of their degree and assists in the Stress Test Lab under the direction of the Stress Testing Registered Nurse. This role reports to the Nursing Director on the assigned unit.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrates appropriate assessment and knowledge of Exercise Physiology for Cardiac/Pulmonary Care.
- Monitors cardiac/pulmonary rehab and stress test patients, communicating effectively with nurses about patients' exercise abilities, abnormal cardiac rhythms, pulmonary functions, and other care-related observations.
- Implements patient care according to planned exercise programs to attain optimal function and documents progress per policy.
- Accurately records patients' exercise, effort, and vital signs.
- Participates in Quality Improvement projects and supports continuous departmental improvement.
- Assists co-workers as needed and supports the Medical Center’s Mission, Vision, and Philosophy.
- Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
- Serves as a sitter when needed, following designated training.
- Performs other essential duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Degree in Exercise Physiology from an accredited school.
- Appropriate intern experience preferred.
- Knowledge of growth and development and the ability to assess physical and psychological needs of patients across early adulthood, middle age, and geriatrics.
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification required or must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) ACLS certification required or must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work within established policies, procedures, and practices.
Physical/Mental Requirements
- Ability to sit and stand intermittently for 8 to 10 hours a day.
- Proficiency in using standard office equipment, including telephone and computer keyboard.
- Works under pressure to maintain near 100% accuracy while meeting inflexible deadlines.
- Continuously utilizes manual/bi-manual dexterity, near vision, speech, and hearing.
- Frequently stands, walks, sits, and utilizes eye/hand coordination and color definition.
- Occasionally reaches above shoulder level and regularly lifts/carries up to 40 lbs.
- Occasionally walks on uneven surfaces.
