About the role

Shepherd is transforming how high-hazard industries get covered. Our mission is to make risk frictionless for builders and operators by providing faster, smarter, and more accurate underwriting decisions.

We are looking for a motivated and eager individual with a minimum of 7+ years of experience in the commercial underwriting space, particularly in construction, casualty, and builder's risk. The ideal candidate should have exceptional interpersonal skills, strong sales and marketing abilities, and the ability to successfully negotiate with both internal and external partners.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and negotiate price, coverage, terms and conditions for all new business and renewals
  • Identify target accounts that fit Shepherd’s underwriting appetite
  • Leverage technology and data to make quick, informed underwriting decisions tailored to clients' specific needs
  • Work closely with internal and external partners to ensure successful negotiations
  • Collaborate with the team to maintain and improve underwriting processes

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Strong background in risk analysis and experience with construction and/or casualty underwriting
  • Knowledge and proficiency with compliance, coverage, products, and pricing strategies
  • Ability to adapt and be creative in a fast-paced startup environment

$185K - $228K

Schedule

This is an onsite position in our New York City, San Francisco, or Dallas Fort Worth offices.
