About the Role
Supervises and controls the labor and costs of the housekeeping department. Maintains clean guest and public areas at all times. Provides excellent guest service in an efficient, courteous, and professional manner while adhering to company standards and procedures.
Prerequisites
- One year of experience supervising at least 3 associates
- Three years of housekeeping experience in lodging, housing, hotels, hospitals, or care facilities
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must pass appropriate security clearances due to access to guestrooms and property
Essential Job Functions
- Perform major life activities: standing, lifting, bending, learning, reading, concentrating, thinking, and communicating
- Push or pull 60 pounds unassisted and lift and/or carry 30 pounds unassisted
- Stand for eight hours, bend, stretch, reach, crawl, and kneel
- See and hear effectively

- Understand and follow oral and written instructions
Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate the activities of the Housekeeping Team through daily shift meetings and monthly department meetings
- Train new housekeeping associates, provide ongoing coaching, and document disciplinary actions
- Assist with interviewing and hiring for housekeeping and laundry departments
- Inspect all areas of the hotel (rooms, public spaces, back of the house, grounds) to ensure sanitation, brand standards, and health/safety requirements are met
- Maintain necessary items for housekeeping and laundry operations, including guest loaned items (roll-aways, cribs, microwaves, refrigerators, etc.) through monthly inventories, ordering, and supply management
- Log, code, file, and process invoices for payment
- Ensure all equipment (vacuums, laundry equipment, carts, etc.) is in proper working order
- Oversee room key controls to ensure safety and security of guests and associates
- Present training resources, including brand and vendor training, for continuous education
- Schedule and work within the designated labor model
- Ensure staff follow policies to maintain guest privacy and implement new policies as needed
- Coordinate with the Maintenance Department to ensure timely initiation of maintenance requests and maintain property condition
- Perform other duties as assigned, within the associate’s capabilities
Requirements
Knowledge
- Supervising and managing staff techniques
- Materials, supplies, and equipment used in housekeeping
- Entire property, staff, services, hours of operations, room types, locations, rates, and discounts
- Safety and security measures; report or correct hazardous conditions immediately
Skills
- Follow and manage using company procedures and policies
- Organize and maintain logs, checklists, and inventories
- Basic computer skills: generate reports, manage housekeeping inventory
- Management skills: interview, train, coach, motivate, counsel, discipline, and termination processes
- Payroll: input payroll, store timecards, and maintain weekly reports
Abilities
- Multitask while remaining service-centric
- Effectively communicate with guests and co-workers via messages and communication logs
- Assist guests with issues professionally and maintain a hospitable attitude
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and department heads
- Learn and use computer systems (e.g., Quore, Hotel Effectiveness) for daily tasks
- Exercise discretion to maintain guest privacy
Working Conditions
- Physical presence at the hotel required; not conducive to telecommuting or remote work
- Standing and walking for long periods while maintaining a professional image
- May be required to work any day/shift, including weekends
- Periodic overnight travel may be required
