About the role
Fortune is seeking an experienced newsroom leader to help shape high-impact storytelling on a broad range of topics defining global business.
Responsibilities
- Create indispensable, must-read journalism for the smartest executives and investors in the world.
- Own, curate, and edit Fortune’s award-winning bimonthly print magazine and digital magazines.
- Guide regular newsroom coverage as the lead editorial executive in New York.
- Work with Fortune’s editor in chief and other executive editors in setting strategy and goals across the newsroom.
- Work with Fortune’s features editor, photo editors and designers to assemble a rich, wide-ranging, and distinctive-looking mix of stories.
- Conceive, assign, and edit a mix of stories outside of the print cycle including exclusive reporting, analysis, executive profiles, investigations, and data-driven projects.
- Guide reporters in identifying and framing key business trends, leveraging financial, market, and policy insights to inform Fortune’s influential readership.
- Work with Fortune’s list owners, editors and research team to build coverage around our authoritative list franchises, including the Fortune 500, Global 500, Most Powerful Women in Business, and 100 Best Companies to Work For.
- Collaborate with Fortune's executive leadership and live-media team to align editorial coverage with event programming, highlighting the ideas, figures, and transformations shaping corporate America.
- Tap your own contacts to secure interviews with Fortune 500 CEOs and newsmakers, for digital, print, video platforms, and live journalism events.
- Appear on stage to moderate conversations with CEOs and top leaders.
- Coordinate with the editors of the Asia and Europe editions of the magazine to align coverage, share content, and uphold Fortune’s standards.
- Maintain high editorial standards of accuracy, insight, and storytelling that align with Fortune’s legacy of authoritative business journalism.
Requirements
- 10+ years of deep experience in business or financial journalism, with a strong record of editorial leadership and story development.
- A track record of working with ad sales and marketing departments to help editorial operations reach their business goals.
- A sophisticated understanding of how corporations operate—strategically, financially, and politically—and can translate that knowledge into an ambitious editorial vision.
- A high EQ and receives rave reviews from writers and editors you have managed in the past.
- A vast knowledge of business and who the major players are; has deep contacts and ability to bring major business leaders into the Fortune universe.
- Absorbs sharp news instincts with long-range planning capabilities, excelling at both quick-turn analysis and major enterprise journalism.
- Able to collaborate effectively across editorial, design, video, and events teams.
- Comfortable serving as a “voice of Fortune” in public-speaking roles, at live events, and in internal and external media appearances.
- Understands and contributes to what makes Fortune distinctive: authoritative, agenda-setting journalism that leads conversations among business leaders and innovators worldwide.
- Has experience working in print media, with fluency in the processes of page design, photography assigning and copy editing, and comfort with print-production deadlines.
- Experience collaborating with third-party vendors in printing and magazine distribution.

$200,000 - $225,000.
Schedule
This role will be based in NYC in our headquarters five days per week.
