About The Role
The Novartis Strategy & Growth, Therapeutic Area Strategy team for Oncology & Hematology is seeking an Executive Director, Therapeutic Area Strategy. This role will support:
- Creation and update of a holistic TA strategy
- Early-phase commercial insights to project teams
- TA-specific internal pipeline development and external licensing/acquisitions opportunities
- Integrated enterprise alignment across Biomedical Research (BR), Development, Strategy & Growth (S&G), and the Commercial US and International units
Responsibilities
- Brings external benchmarking, analysis, insights, and judgement to support the TA Strategy Head in developing a holistic Novartis TA strategy that achieves sustainable growth in short, mid, and long-term
- Applies understanding of the pharmaceutical industry and core Therapeutic Areas (TA) and Disease areas of Oncology & Hematology to derive insightful and differentiating competitive advantages
- Provides key commercial insights to R&D project teams, particularly for early phase programs (US in-market experience critical)
- Analyzes reports and publications to extract key messages, including building product forecasts
- Supports development and delivery of TA-specific strategic external insights to identify growth opportunities, emerging competitive challenges, and creation of a third-party view around key strategic levers; commissions targeted primary research
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (PhD, MD, or other advanced University degree) and/or equivalent experience in life science/healthcare
- MBA, consulting, or equivalent experience highly preferred
- In-depth TA knowledge (or track record to acquire required TA expertise effectively and rapidly) in Oncology and/or Hematology
- Highly agile with capacity to support multiple strategic DAs within a TA and multiple programs (internal and external)
- Substantial experience evaluating new product opportunities (through M&A, BD&L, and internal research programs)
- 7–10 years of industry experience in pharma and/or medical devices in Research & Development and/or commercial functions, including conducting, commissioning, and analyzing primary research
- Experience in strategy development and asset shaping early in lifecycle (any functional perspective)
- Recent (post-2015) local US in-market experience, including working within the US market with local US customers and healthcare systems
Pay
The salary for this position is expected to range between $248,500 and $461,500 USD per year. The final salary offered is determined based on relevant skills and experience. Compensation includes a performance-based cash incentive and eligibility for annual equity awards.
