About the Role
The Executive Director leads through vision and values, overseeing all day-to-day operations of the community. This includes team member relations, resident and family services, resident well-being, vibrant activities, quality assurance, financial management, regulatory compliance, and overall community operations.
Responsibilities
- Run the operations of the business as if it were your own, demonstrating high business acumen and understanding of all department operations.
- Recruit, train, and hire department managers to supervise daily operations, including hiring, disciplining, terminating, scheduling, and evaluating team members.
- Maintain approachability, fairness, and clear communication while showing confidence and enthusiasm.
- Remain composed during stressful and emergent situations.
- Support department heads to ensure efficient operations aligned with MorningStar standards.
- Act as a good steward, driving results, rallying the team, and promoting disciplined analysis of projects and problems.
- Embody a Serving Leader mindset, prioritizing the needs of others and fostering team development.
- Lead the sales culture in collaboration with the Sales and Marketing Director.
- Prepare and submit required reports for the company.
- Represent the community with federal, state, local government, and private agencies.
- Observe activities in each department and on each shift to ensure compliance with MorningStar standards.
- Manage by "walking around," engaging with team members face-to-face to assess operations and listen to concerns.
- Walk and observe the community daily, ensuring the physical plant is always "ready for company."
- Maintain a daily presence in Reflections during meal times to ensure team engagement and quality dining experiences.
- Spend time in the dining room daily to ensure resident and family satisfaction and support the team during meals.
- Ensure compliance with company policies on resident care, human resources, financial control, public relations, and maintenance.
- Collaborate with corporate and regional teams to update policies and share best practices.
- Accompany surveyors and consultants during community inspections and annual health and life safety surveys.
- Review deficiencies and submit plans of correction to appropriate government agencies.
- Evaluate team member performance with department heads and support the annual review process.
- Maintain confidentiality and dignity while providing resident information to authorized agencies or individuals.
- Maintain personal and daily contact with residents and families.
- Ensure adequate supplies and equipment are available, properly stored, and in working order.
- Actively participate in committees and ensure meeting minutes and reports are maintained.
- Oversee the community volunteer program and outreach initiatives.
- Ensure department managers utilize expense management systems, including monthly spend downs.
- Facilitate necessary meetings, including daily stand-ups, weekly department head meetings, safety meetings, and monthly inter-departmental meetings.
Requirements
- Demonstration of MorningStar’s Core Values: Love, Kindness, Honesty, Goodness, Fairness, Respect.
- 3+ years of Executive Director or related experience in a senior living environment.
- Demonstrated competence in:
- Financial expense and budget management
- Human Resources: staffing, team development, and employment policies
- Building maintenance and presentation
- Facilitating a sales culture
- Leading compliance with clinical requirements and best practices
- Culinary excellence
- Resident and family dialogue, activities, and relationship management
- Leadership: Ability and willingness to act as a Serving Leader, prioritizing the needs of others and fostering team development.
- Passion for working with seniors and a vibrant team.
Qualifications
- Education: A college degree is preferred but not required if work experience fulfills job requirements.
- Continuing Education: Applicable state-required continuing education.
- Licensure: Maintain applicable state-required license and/or certification.
- Demonstrated subject matter expertise in dementia care, senior care, safety, and leading in a senior living community.
- Technology: Proficiency in computer skills, Microsoft Office, and ability to learn new applications.
- Time Management: Ability to handle multiple priorities effectively while demonstrating interpersonal and political savviness.
- Flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and flexible hours, including being on call 24/7.

Pay
Pay Range: $150,000.00 - $160,000.00
Schedule
Full-time, Monday - Friday, with hours as needed.
