Executive Director of Social Services
Job Summary
The Executive Director of Social Services provides divisional leadership and accountability for the strategy, performance, and stewardship of social services across The Salvation Army’s North & Central Illinois Division.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Strategizes and implements long-term plans that align department objectives with mission priorities.
Anticipates and responds to changes in the social services environment, positioning the department to serve diverse communities effectively.
Establishes policies, procedures, and processes for the department to meet its objectives, maintain compliance, and sustain accreditation.
Serves on the Divisional Mission Program Committee (DMPC), ensuring program recommendations are well-grounded and executed.
Supervises Senior Directors of Program Operations, Mission Investment Management, and Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning, ensuring effective program delivery and data management.
Ensures program sites have clear administrative support and program development, and oversees the deployment and effectiveness of division-wide programs.
Coordinates with Advancement, Business Administration, and Congregational Life and Ministry to integrate pastoral care and ministry programming with program delivery.
Conducts regular fiscal reviews and ensures efficient resource utilization and financial stability.
Manages social service positions with individuals capable of achieving department objectives, fostering a culture of teamwork and professional growth.
Builds and maintains positive relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and partners, treating all staff, clients, donors, and visitors with courtesy, respect, and dignity.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Master’s degree in social work, public administration, behavioral science, nonprofit management, or a related field.
Minimum 10 years of experience in managing social service programs, preferably in a faith-based nonprofit organization.
Credentials as a Licensed Social Worker (LSW) or Academy of Certified Social Workers (ACSW) preferred.
Working knowledge of The Salvation Army’s history, mission, and structure, as well as its services, policies, and procedures.
Demonstrated ability to lead matrixed teams and manage staff, projects, priorities, and programs in a constantly changing environment.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret program, financial, and outcomes data.
Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
Hands-on knowledge of working with and managing diversity in the workplace.
