Position Summary
The Executive Director is responsible for the overall direction of hospice services. He/she is responsible for the employment of qualified hospice personnel; is responsible for the provision of hospice services, directly; is responsible for establishing standards of care to comply with federal and state regulations and guidelines. The Executive Director establishes, implements, and evaluates goals and objectives for hospice services that meet and promote the standards of quality and contribute to the total organization and philosophy.
Key Responsibilities
- Participates in operational planning and budgeting.
- Ensures that care is in accordance with Medicare, Medicaid, ACHC, Federal and State guidelines.
- Ensures standards of ethical business and clinical practice are maintained.
- Demonstrates exceptional service to patients, families, referral sources, co-workers and other customers.
- Makes sure business operations are financially stable.
- Oversees and participates in Administrator on-call rotation.
- Makes sure operational progress is made towards achieving operational and strategic goals.
- Evaluates hospice services and personnel using measurable outcomes and objectives.
- Makes sure compliance with the organization's Performance Improvement program.
- Makes sure follow-up on any patient, employee, or customer complaints/concerns.
- Establishes and maintains effective, open channels of communication.
- Fosters a no-blame culture that encourages reporting of safety and quality of services issues.
- Makes sure adequate and appropriate staffing and staff supervision.
- Participates in the hiring process and ensures performance of annual employee performance evaluations.
- Makes sure complete, appropriate and adequate staff development including orientation, in-service, continuing education, competency testing, and quality assessment performance improvement.
- Conducts regular staff meetings and maintains minutes.
- Makes sure interdisciplinary care is provided and that Interdisciplinary Group (IDG) meetings are conducted timely, and records are maintained.
- Makes sure updated policies, forms and job descriptions are reviewed with appropriate staff and utilized in the office.
- Directs staff in performance of their duties including admission, discharge, transfer, revocation, and provision of service to patients.
- Makes sure services provided by other agencies are authorized by hospice.
- Makes sure that all invoices are reviewed, approved and forwarded to the corporate AP in a timely manner.
- Makes sure appropriate data collection and regular, complete reports are received by the Governing Body.
- Makes sure adequate space, equipment and supplies are available.
- Aids team members as needed to ensure that high level of service is consistently provided.
- Performs other duties as assigned by management to support department goals and initiatives.
