Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Vice President for Facilities Management and Development, the Executive Director of Facilities Maintenance, Operations and Engineering independently leads Facilities Maintenance and Operations.

Aligns with Facilities Planning and Capital Projects to ensure infrastructure standards are maintained, sustainability and decarbonization goals are achieved, and total life cycle costs are optimized.

About the Role

Serves as the steward of all campus utilities, buildings, grounds, and infrastructure related to facility operations.

Enforces the highest possible standards for a safe, comfortable, effective, and efficient working and learning environment while forecasting future needs and setting long-term operational paths.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate, coordinate, and represent operations and maintenance input to the project design and construction teams.
  • Provide continued involvement throughout the construction, inspection, testing, acceptance testing, and occupancy.
  • Collaborate with senior managers within the department and in AFD in establishing and monitoring long and short-term goals and setting department priorities that align with Cal Poly’s academic strategic plan and physical master plan.
  • Provide exemplary leadership and clear direction to management team ensuring effective prioritization, development, and assessment of operational programs and projects to achieve industry-leading results.
  • Approve and monitor annual operating budgets exceeding $30 million, including state, housing, re-charge, and utilities funding.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field AND eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in planning, organizing, and directing a large maintenance workforce.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain by date of hire.

  • Education and Experience: Master’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field AND eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in planning, organizing, and directing a large maintenance workforce.
  • Additional Qualifying Experience: Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Benefits

The anticipated hiring range for this role is $180,000 - $220,000 per year. Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
