About the role

The Executive Director is responsible for hands-on operations execution at the community level, including profit and loss, financial performance, leadership of employees, and resident and family satisfaction. This role manages the community based on company policies, procedures, and guidelines, ensuring full knowledge of all state and federal regulations pertinent to day-to-day operations. A key component of this position is ownership of the sales and marketing process to maximize revenue and market position.

Responsibilities

  • Compliance/Safety
    • Adheres to and enforces OSHA regulations and safety procedures.
    • Practices safety procedures at all times, including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), fire extinguishers, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)/Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and Lockout Tagout procedures.
    • Reviews all incident reports; ensures corrective actions are in place in a timely manner.
    • Maintains full compliance with all laws and regulations regarding the operation of an assisted living facility.
    • Secures the community’s license and posts it in accordance with regulations.
    • Maintains compliance with fire drills and disaster plans.
    • Investigates, monitors, and reviews work-related injuries.
  • Financial Management
    • Reviews and interprets monthly financial reports and provides explanations of budget variances to management.
    • Shares results of monthly financial reports with department heads and counsels individual managers on department budget variances as needed.
    • Submits proposed annual budget to management and partnership.
    • Educates department heads to consistently meet budgetary guidelines.
    • Ensures all department heads consistently meet budget guidelines.
    • Maximizes opportunities to generate revenue and ancillary revenue.
    • Oversees the administration of payroll and processing accounts payable.
    • Researches opportunities to maximize revenue.
    • Ensures accounts receivable are collected on a timely basis.
    • Initiates actions to maintain operations within the established budget.
  • Organization/Prioritization
    • Demonstrates effective time management and organization skills and has the ability to multitask.
    • Effectively communicates priorities.
  • Sales/Marketing
    • Demonstrates proficiency in generating leads and closing sales.
    • Plans, implements, and evaluates a rent-up and occupancy strategy.
    • Represents the community in public settings, including presentations to large groups and meetings with community leaders.
    • Positions the community as a “good neighbor” by opening it for use by outside groups and organizations.
    • Assists the Community Engagement Director with outreach to the medical, legal, financial, and business communities influencing the senior market.
    • Ensures an effective external business development strategy is in place, with clear accountabilities, and adjusts the plan to maximize referral leads and move-ins.
    • Holds DCR and other community leaders accountable for a predetermined number of quality visits and establishes referral sources resulting in move-ins.

Requirements

  • Education/Experience/Licensure
    • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resources Administration, Gerontology, or a related field preferred.
    • 2–5 years of prior General Manager/Administrator experience preferred, or 5–10 years in Senior Living, Hospitality, or Skilled Nursing with 5 of those years at the management level.
    • Valid driver’s license.
    • Valid license to operate an assisted living facility, if mandated by the state.
  • Physical Requirements

    In an 8-hour workday:

    • Stand/walk: 2–4 hours at a time, totaling 4–6 hours per day.
    • Sit: 2–4 hours at a time, totaling 4–6 hours per day.
    • Drive: 30–60 minutes, 1–2 times per week.
    • Support/assist: Up to 50 lbs frequently, up to 150 lbs occasionally.
    • Lift/carry: Up to 40 lbs frequently, up to 70 lbs occasionally (height of lift: 3–4 feet; distance of carry: 30 yards).
    • Use hands for repetitive simple grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation.
    • Bend, squat, kneel: Occasionally.
    • Climb: Frequently.
    • Reach: Occasionally, up to 3 feet.
