Asian Pacific Islander Legal Outreach (APILO) is the largest social justice legal organization focused on the Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, and immigrant communities of the Greater Bay Area and the Central Valley. Founded in 1975, APILO provides culturally competent and linguistically appropriate direct services to marginalized communities, including low-income women, seniors, immigrants, and youth. With offices in Oakland and San Francisco, APILO’s work spans Gender-based Violence, Immigration and Immigrant Rights, Disability Rights, Senior Law and Elder Abuse, Anti-Human Trafficking, Youth Violence Prevention, Anti-API Hate Violence, affordable housing preservation, and other social justice issues.

About the role

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Executive Associate will assist with development and legal support duties, based in San Francisco with responsibilities for the East Bay office. This role requires a commitment to social justice and involves interacting with diverse stakeholders while representing the organization in various settings. The ideal candidate will be dedicated to serving underserved Asian and Pacific Islander and BIPOC communities in the Greater Bay Area.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Executive Director with development and legal case-related tasks, providing legal, clerical, and administrative support.
  • Communicate with clients and case contacts.
  • Perform client intake, including gathering information on legal problems and client demographics.
  • Provide oral and written translation for clients, if applicable.
  • Assist with data entry and reporting, including recording work on Legal Server.
  • Support fundraising efforts, including grant applications, donation solicitation, and events.
  • Assist with media and community relations, public education, social media, and outreach.
  • Perform other office-related duties as needed, such as development, fundraising, or casework.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 3 years of experience as an administrative or executive associate, preferably in a non-profit or legal setting.
  • Demonstrated experience providing administrative support, including scheduling, communication, and coordinating meetings and events.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities efficiently.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders, including clients, staff, and community partners.
  • Competence in using office software and tools, including word processing, spreadsheets, and database management.
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice and understanding of the needs of Asian and Pacific Islander and BIPOC communities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Non-Profit Management, Legal Studies, or a related field.
  • Experience in legal case management, including client intake, data entry, and reporting.
  • Proven track record of assisting with development activities such as fundraising, grant applications, and event planning.
  • Strong IT troubleshooting skills and experience managing office technology resources.
  • Experience in media and community relations, public education, social media management, and outreach.
  • Ability to provide oral and written translation for clients, if applicable.
  • Willingness and ability to travel between offices in San Francisco and the East Bay as required.
  • Fluency in an Asian or Pacific Islander language (e.g., Japanese) is highly desirable for client communication and translation.
