About the role

As the assistant to the United States Attorney (USA) for the District of Arizona, you will provide a variety of technical and administrative support services. A confidential relationship is required between the incumbent and the USA. This temporary promotion may be extended up to a total of 4 years or made permanent without further competition.

Responsibilities

Typical work assignments will include:

  • Managing and overseeing the day-to-day activities of the immediate office of the USA.
  • Exercising exclusive control over the USA's calendar for all appointments, meetings, engagements, and conferences with complete authority for commitment of time.
  • Independently handling matters addressed to the USA that do not require personal attention by referring such to appropriate staff members, or personally performing the work needed to resolve the matter.
  • Representing the USA when addressing leading figures within the government, business, law enforcement community, and other organizations.
  • Arranging conferences and meetings for the USA, preparing agendas and notifying participants.
  • Developing a variety of recurring reports and documents which involve obtaining information from the staff, subject files or other sources, and formatting the needed information properly in narrative, table, or graph formats.
  • Producing a variety of written documents utilizing varied and advanced functions in one or more types of office automation software.
  • Editing written material for adherence with supervisor's established policies, writing style, and previously expressed views, as well as for conformity with office policies and correspondence procedures.

Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
  • You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
  • If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
  • Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.
  • You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement and before placement in the position.

Qualifications

GS-10: To be eligible at the GS-10 level, you must have at least ONE year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level. Specialized experience is defined as performing complex and confidential administrative support and tasks for superiors; maintaining and exercising control over supervisors' calendar for appointments, meetings, engagements and conferences; reading, screening and controlling incoming documents; receiving and screening visitors and callers; composing a variety of written material; ensuring accuracy of outgoing correspondence for procedural and grammatical accuracy; and making travel arrangements.

Education may not be substituted for specialized experience at this series/grade level.
