Excavator Operator

Safely operates a variety of heavy equipment, including backhoes, excavators, dozers, loaders, graders, haul trucks, dump trucks, and water trucks. Responsible for preventative maintenance and pre-shift walk-around inspections to ensure safe operation of assigned equipment.

Responsibilities

• Maintain positive working relationships with all crew members.
• Produce high-quality work safely and productively at all times.
• Provide feedback to ensure availability of materials, tools, equipment, and information for the work.
• Identify opportunities for improvement in tasks, means, and methods; be willing to learn from others.
• Share knowledge and teach others continuously.
• Demonstrate high proficiency in equipment preventative maintenance.
• Inspect subordinates' work for accuracy and compliance with plans and specifications; explain deficiencies and take corrective action as needed.
• Eliminate waste such as waiting, rework, transporting, material storage, and time.

Requirements

• Minimum of three years (Level I), four years (Level II), five years (Level III), or six-plus years’ experience in the industrial/commercial construction industry.
• In-depth understanding of the operation of various types of heavy construction equipment.
• Ability to read and understand drawings, specifications, safety, and quality standards.
• Effective utilization of all trade tools and equipment relevant to the work.
• Possess effective verbal and written communication skills.

Physical Requirements

• Work up to a 12-hour shift performing hard physical labor in varying temperatures and outdoor conditions.
• Climb and maintain balance on steel/wood framework, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds.
• Lift, push, or pull objects up to 50 lbs. on an occasional basis.
• Use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry, or feel objects frequently.
• Comply with all safety standards and procedures.
• Reach above shoulder heights and below the waist frequently.
• Stoop, kneel, or bend occasionally.
• Wear personal protective equipment (e.g., steel-toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hat, vest).
• Move in and around confined, cluttered, and uneven areas.

This is a safety-sensitive role involving tasks that could affect the safety and health of the employee or others, such as operating vehicles, equipment, machinery, handling hazardous materials, or working with flammable/combustible materials.
