About the role

The Executive Vice President for Research and Innovation (EVPRI) serves as Augusta University's Chief Research Officer. Reporting directly to the President, this key executive leader is responsible for establishing, shaping, and driving the university's research strategy, fostering a culture of innovation, and promoting research translation.

Responsibilities

  • Collaboratively lead the research enterprise, developing new programs and partnerships to extend AU's research reach and impact.
  • Develop plans for research, research translation, and entrepreneurship that guide AU towards becoming an R1 research university.
  • Strengthen links with external partners such as federal funding agencies, state funding agencies, and industry partners.
  • Foster research education and training for health science students, graduate students, GME trainees, and junior faculty.

Requirements

  • Holds a PhD, MD, MD/PhD, or equivalent from an accredited institution in their subspecialty and/or related field.
  • Eligible for a faculty appointment at the Professor level at Augusta University.
  • Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
  • Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
  • Demonstrated expertise in research-driven programs and policies, experience developing and leveraging partnerships, and success leading complex teams or organizations.
  • Experience working with federal and other funding agencies, obtaining extramural funding to support research, and commercializing research and intellectual property into the private sector.

Qualifications

  • Consistent with SACSCOC's requirements for institutional accreditation.
  • Evidence of ability as a teacher.
  • Evidence of activity as a scholar.
  • Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements).
  • A track record of industry collaboration, entrepreneurship, and collaboration with venture capital funding sources.
  • Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
