Event Coordinator
About the role
Skillsheet is a Seattle-based recruiting and event-intelligence company. Events are one of our main go-to-market channels: we host and co-host panels, founder dinners, and ecosystem events across the Seattle tech scene, including Seattle Tech Week and partner events with accelerators and coworking spaces. We're hiring a part-time Event Coordinator to make those events happen. You'll own the calendar, wrangle speakers and panelists, book venues, sort out food and drinks (sometimes literally picking them up), and run point on the day. You'll work directly with the CEO.
This is a great gig if you're a college student or recent grad who wants to break into startups. You'll watch go-to-market happen up close: how events turn into pipeline, how founders and investors actually talk to each other, and how a small company builds a brand in its city. You'll leave with a real network in Seattle tech and a resume line that means something.
Responsibilities
- Own the event calendar. Plan which event happens when, keep the schedule realistic, and make sure nothing collides with the ecosystem's big dates.
- Recruit and follow up with speakers and panelists. Send invites, confirm topics and logistics, chase the busy people who don't reply, and make sure everyone shows up prepped.
- Handle venues. Scout spaces, negotiate with venue contacts, confirm AV and room setup, and hold the relationship for repeat use.
- Handle food and drinks. Get catering quoted and booked — and when the event calls for it, do the Costco run yourself. No task is beneath this role on event day.
- Run day-of operations. Setup, check-in, keeping the schedule on time, teardown, and staying calm when something breaks. Something always breaks.
- Manage attendee communications. Event pages, reminders, and post-event follow-up.
- Close the loop after each event. Log attendees, leads, and follow-ups in our CRM so events turn into pipeline instead of just good vibes.
- Coordinate with co-hosts and partners. Many of our events run with partners; you'll keep them aligned on logistics and promotion.
What you'll learn
- How a startup uses events as a GTM channel: sourcing attendees, converting conversations into meetings, and measuring what an event was worth.
- How the Seattle startup ecosystem fits together: founders, investors, accelerators, and the people who connect them.
- Direct exposure to a founder/CEO running sales and marketing, with real responsibility from week one.
Strong performers have a path into a bigger GTM role with us — business development, marketing, or community — as the company grows.
Requirements
Must-haves
- Based in Seattle with reliable transportation and the ability to do pickups and venue visits.
- Organized to a fault. You keep lists, you confirm twice, and deadlines don't surprise you.
- Strong written communication. Most speaker and venue wrangling happens over email, and it has to be clear and professional.
- Evening availability on event days (typically 1–3 evenings per month, plus prep time).
- A doer's attitude. Comfortable with unglamorous work (chairs, name tags, drink runs) and taking ownership without being chased.
- Genuine interest in startups. You want to be in these rooms anyway.
Nice-to-haves
- Event experience of any kind: campus clubs, hackathons, student orgs, hospitality, or catering work.
- Familiarity with event and design tools (Luma, Canva, Eventbrite, or similar).
- Coursework or internships in marketing, communications, or business.
- An existing toe in the Seattle tech or founder community.
Pay
$22/hour, paid as an independent contractor (1099).
Schedule
Part-time and event-driven: roughly 1–3 evenings per month on event days, plus prep time. In-person in Seattle. Reliable transportation required for venue visits and supply runs.
