About the role

The Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) USAF Special Operations School (USAFSOS) Theater Engagement Department requires language, regional expertise, and culture (LREC) training and education. This role focuses on the T200 EUCOM regional expertise course, which centers on US strategic interests in Europe as outlined in the 2019 EUCOM Posture Statement. The course emphasizes topics critical to US Special Operations Forces (SOF) operating within the EUCOM Area of Responsibility (AOR), fostering regional expertise and cultural understanding to enhance operational effectiveness. It integrates tactical-level SOF mission areas into broader operational and strategic contexts, addressing evolving international conflict dynamics and interagency collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute one-week-long indoctrination, continuing education, pre-deployment education, and issues-based instruction for SOF and SOF enabler students to cultivate region-specific knowledge of the EUCOM Theater of operations.
• Maintain current knowledge of AFSOC units deploying to the EUCOM AOR and their missions through active liaison.
• Produce lesson plans tailored to unit missions and political/military challenges in the EUCOM AOR.
• Instruct students and select appropriate guest speakers to deliver instruction as needed.
• Develop curriculum materials to facilitate online/blended learning.
• Ensure course conduct adheres to USAFSOS Instructional Systems Development (ISD) guidelines.
• Manage curriculum development and review processes to meet or exceed SOF customer needs.

Requirements

• Master’s degree with at least 18 undergraduate semester credit hours and 24 graduate semester hours directly related to Europe in fields such as foreign policy, international relations, political science, foreign area studies, history, sociology, or other approved disciplines. Official transcripts required.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching regional studies to military audiences in a student-focused manner.
• Experience developing curricula and teaching materials related to the target region at undergraduate and graduate levels.
• At least 4 years of experience living in the target region (including at least 3 months within the last 2 years) engaged in work or studies on the local economy, or at least 3 years as a Combat Aviation Advisor or related experience (e.g., Special Forces) with a bachelor’s degree in any field. Waivers may be granted for significant relevant operational experience.
• Minimum of three years of active or reserve experience as a US military member in a Special Operations Forces functional community (e.g., Combat Aviation Advisor, Combat Control Team, AFSOC career flier, Army Special Forces, or Civil Affairs).
• Secret clearance required (Top Secret preferred).

Qualifications

• Master’s degree preferred; bachelor’s degree required in political science, conflict management, military science, international relations, regional area studies, or related field.
• Knowledge of a foreign language is preferred if it enables the use of authentic materials in the target language.
• Combination of military experience, education, and teaching experience is preferred.

Pay

$100,000 - $102,500 a year. Actual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors including experience, education, certifications, security clearance requirements, internal equity, and customer or contract requirements.
