University of Colorado Medicine (CU Medicine) is the region’s largest and most comprehensive multi-specialty physician group practice. The CU Medicine team delivers business operations, revenue cycle and administrative services to support the patients of over 4,000 University of Colorado School of Medicine physicians and advanced practice providers. These providers bring their unparalleled expertise at the forefront of medicine to deliver trusted, compassionate health care services at primary and specialty care clinics as well as facilities operated by affiliate hospitals of the University of Colorado. This job can be performed 100% remotely and out-of-state candidates will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Review provider documentation to validate complete and accurate procedural and diagnoses coding, including use of clinic schedules to verify date of service, name, CU Medicine provider billing number, and referring provider information.
  • Evaluate and prioritize ICD-10-CM codes and CPT-4 procedure codes with applicable modifiers when necessary, as well as HCPCS codes, if applicable.
  • Process charges within 24-48 hours of clinic completion, ensuring accordance with CMS, state, and local regulations.
  • Maintain 95%+ accuracy rate for all charges processed, while meeting applicable department production standards.
  • Reconcile all charges processed in the billing system.
  • Participate in 80% of the monthly “Break to Educate” sessions and complete required education modules.
  • Provide coding coverage, as needed, to ensure timeliness and quality of the overall charge capture process.
  • Collaborate with Manager/Supervisor to document and maintain approval of policies and procedures for assigned areas of coding responsibility.
  • Process edit reports within seven days of occurrence to ensure charges are billed within timely filing limits.
  • Participate in committees and/or meetings as required.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding updates and changes via CEUs, coding chapter events, and CU Medicine education sessions.
  • Perform other duties and assist with special projects as assigned by department leadership.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; prior coding experience strongly preferred.
  • CPC or equivalent certification.
  • Ability to organize and work independently in a professional setting.
  • Positive attitude and team-building skills.
  • Sound decision-making and high-level verbal & written communication skills.

Pay

The listed pay range represents CU Medicine’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting and is based on evaluation of competitive market data. A variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, and education will be considered when determining the final offer.
