RCM Coder

About the role

This position is a remote opportunity available to individuals located in North Carolina.

Responsibilities

• Collects reimbursements by gathering, coding, and transmitting patient care information
• Resolves discrepancies and adjusts patient bills
• Works AR and prepares reports
• Navigates around CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS to assign codes for reimbursements
• Collaborates with providers to correct diagnosis or procedure codes
• Identifies and resolves coding or billing issues from EOBs
• Maintains knowledge of all payers and coordinates with clinics to collect outstanding superbills
• Updates patient demographics and insurance information
• Transfers open balances to correct insurance
• Communicates with patients and guarantors to secure payment
• Solves disputed claims by gathering, verifying, and providing additional information
• Identifies problem accounts and escalates as necessary
• Writes appeals and includes supporting documentation
• Runs appropriate reports and contacts insurance companies to resolve unpaid claims
• Maintains department metrics and thresholds set by manager
• Assists with special projects and other job-related duties

Qualifications

• High School Diploma
• 2 years of professional coding/billing experience
• AAPC certification preferred
• Experience with Medicare, Medicaid, and other commercial and private payers
• Well-developed interpersonal skills to interact in sensitive and/or complex situations
• Excellent customer service and professionalism
• Maintains patient confidentiality
• Proficient computer skills
• Organized and efficient
• Self-motivated to meet objectives

Skills

• ProFee coding and billing experience
• Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS
• Strong organizational and analytical skills
• Effective communication and problem-solving abilities
