ESY - Paraprofessional (Summer 2026)
Program Description
The Extended School Year (ESY) program provides specialized services to students with disabilities. The program runs from July 6 to August 7, 2026, with 5 hours of instruction per day, 5 days a week, for 5 weeks. The IEP Team decides whether ESY is necessary and what services are provided.
Reports to
The position reports to the ESY Site Coordinator, who works closely with the Director of Extended School Year and Expanded Learning in the Office of Specialized Services.
Responsibilities
- Commit to working all 25 days of the program.
- Support direct, small, and whole group instruction to students with disabilities.
- Aid in classroom activities, including setup and cleanup.
- Assist with the safe arrival and dismissal of students.
- Assist with breakfast and lunch for students.
- Assist with field trips and other structured activities.
- Support during arrival and dismissal, as directed by the site coordinator.
- Perform tasks related to toileting and changing diapers.
- Adhere to ESY handbook policies and ensure compliance with site policies.
Terms
The individual hired to this position agrees to the 2026 BPS Summer Employment Terms. They must sign the 2026 ESY Job Description Sign Off Form to acknowledge their understanding of the expectations and terms. The position is paid hourly at a rate of $37 per hour of instructional time and $30 per hour for non-instructional responsibilities. Additional work hours require approval from the Director of Extended School Year & Expanded Learning.
Qualifications - Required
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Forty-eight (48) Credit Hours of College Coursework or an Associate's Degree, or a passing score on one of the two Formalized Standardized Assessments: ParaPro Assessment or WorkKeys Certificate of Proficiency for Teacher Assistants.
- Current Safety-care certification.
- Minimum of two years experience working with children.
- Experience and ability working with special education teachers.
- Experience and ability working with students with disabilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively with others.
- Current authorization to work in the United States.
Qualifications - Preferred
- Candidates with current paraprofessional experience at a BPS school attended by students in this program will be prioritized.
- Candidates fluent in one of BPS' official languages: Spanish, Creole (Cape Verdean), Creole (Haitian), Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, & Somali.
