Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
  • One to two years of experience in industrial piping estimation, preferably in the mechanical industry or related sectors.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, piping materials, fittings, and installations.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting piping drawings, schematics, and technical specifications.
  • Knowledge of piping codes, standards, and regulations, such as ASME B31.1, B31.3, and ASTM standards.
  • Excellent analytical and mathematical skills, with the ability to perform detailed cost analysis and generate accurate estimates.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and precision in estimating and documentation.
  • Familiarity with construction contracts, procurement processes, and project management principles.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Project Analysis: Review project specifications, piping drawings, and technical documentation to understand the scope and requirements of industrial piping systems.
  • Cost Estimation: Utilize your knowledge and experience in the mechanical industry to prepare detailed and accurate estimates for piping components of industrial projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
  • Material Takeoff: Conduct material takeoffs to quantify the required piping materials, valves, fittings, and other components for project installations.
  • Vendor and Supplier Coordination: Obtain quotes and pricing from vendors and suppliers for piping materials, negotiate terms, and ensure timely procurement to support project schedules and budgetary requirements.
  • Subcontractor Management: Coordinate with subcontractors and specialty contractors for piping installations, obtain subcontractor quotes, and assess labor costs to incorporate into project estimates.
  • Value Engineering: Identify opportunities for cost optimization and value engineering in piping designs and installations, while maintaining quality and performance standards.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, engineers, procurement specialists, and other stakeholders to coordinate project requirements, resolve technical issues, and ensure alignment on cost estimates and project deliverables.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of piping estimates, bids, contracts, change orders, and other project-related documentation in compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Cost Tracking: Monitor project costs throughout the construction phase, track expenditures, compare actual costs to estimated budgets, and identify variances to inform decision-making and improve future estimates.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in piping design, construction, and estimation to enhance estimating processes and contribute to the company’s competitiveness.
